2011 was ‘n jaar van toer vir Swiegers – die land vol. Hy reken een van die hoogtepunte was – toe ‘n man ná ‘n onlangse optrede vir hom kom sê het dat hy die vertoning teen sy sin bygewoon het, maar baie bly was dat hy wel so gemaak het. André steur hom min aan die tipies-populêre liedjies van die dag – die wat kom en gaan. Hy glo musiek behoort nie volgens ‘n vasgestelde resep / formule te gebeur nie. Juis daarom is hy ingestel om musiek te maak met eie karakter en trefkrag.

André gaan ‘n paar van sy ou bekendes sing (soos Eva, Blou, Turn on the light) asook van sy mees onlangse werke wat nog nie opgeneem is nie.

Known in the 90s as South Africa’s hardest working blues band, the Blues Broers played hundreds of gigs at festivals, in bars and in nightclubs. However, the death of drummer Frank Frost in 1999 was a blow from which the band struggled to recover and in 2003 they put on a farewell gig in Stellenbosch.The Blues Broers (featuring Albert Frost) who pride themselves on producing an exceptionally fine, versatile and diverse live show, will be on tour along the coast for the first time in around 15 years, this season.

Now, by popular demand, snappily attired in their trademark black suits and dark glasses, the Blues Broers are back in circulation with performances at old haunts and new, as well as being a welcome feature of the festival circuit again too.

The impeccable Albert Frost performs on a classic selection of electric and acoustic guitars. In a corner of the stage, keyboard player Simon Orange hammers a boogie-woogie for the crowd. Rob Nagel (fondly known as Big Bob or Harpdog Bob) deftly juggles bass, harmonica and tea chest, whilst new drummer Tim Rankin brings his considerable experience to the rhythm section

The Blues Broers have just released their sixth cd, “Out of the Blue” CD, on which the band wrote, performed and produced all 13 songs. Eight years have passed since they took a well-earned break from their exhausting tour schedule. Fourteen years have passed since their last album was released. But the wait has been well worthwhile. Immaculately crafted by producer Albert Frost and engineer Tim Rankin, the sonic quality of this work can easily stand next to anything the world can offer.

Apart from the sound quality, the songwriting ability of the band has also matured. The variation is astounding. Blues, Jazz, Pop, Country, Western, Rock, Rock-n-Roll, Skiffle, Bar-room. All there in glorious technicolour.

They say good things come to those who wait. And in the case of Elvis Blue, winner of South African Idols season 6, those good things have come. No newcomer to the music scene, Elvis Blue is a musician with a dream, a goal and an overwhelming desire to make music that matters. As he sings in first single ‘Things My Father Said’ – “If you have a dream you better hold on for dear life”.

Elvis Blue’s journey did not begin, and will not end, with Idols. Having had music in his blood since he was a young kid singing in school choirs to busking the streets of Joburg and Scotland, Elvis has had one goal – and one goal alone – to make music. After a stint overseas as a street musician, Elvis returned to South Africa where he decided to study contemporary music. After appearing in numerous bands – “bad bands” he adds, Elvis started a project where he sang under the name MONO. A successful musician, he was signed to Gallo Record Company’s RPM division where he released 3 albums under the name MONO. Although he garnered his fair share of attention, MONO didn’t translate into the kind of success he was hoping for. “Poor Gallo. They really lost a lot of money on me. I feel so bad for them,” he laughs.“Being named the winner of Idols is such a privilege to me. It’s an incredible thing to know that thousands of people who you don’t know voted for you and are supporting your music. It’s humbling, an honour and such a privilege”, says Elvis on his win.

When MONO’s record deal came to an end, his career was stagnating. Playing endless gigs and spending many fruitless hours on stage, Elvis decided that he would move to George where he would become a music teacher, write his own music, and live a quiet life. This is where he would meet the friend whose name he would adopt. “My wife works at an organization that is a hospice and a children’s home and I met this little boy in the hospice when I used to go and play my guitar for them. He really wanted to be a keyboard player, and his name was Elvis Blue”. When he passed away, as a tribute to this amazing young man, Elvis adopted his name and Elvis Blue – The Idol, was born.

No better fitting tribute to a man fueled by his dreams and his passion.

A man who struggled with drug and alcohol addiction, who had sordid love affairs and throughout it all has been a prolific songwriter and guitar god to many generations. The Eric Clapton “Slowhand” Tribute Show brings his music to life and tells the story of a man who faced many challenges but was always sure of one thing: The Music

The Show is performed by some of SA’s great musical talents. Peter Hoven who performs as Eric Clapton has been invited along with Gerald Clark and Henry Steel to perform as the First South African Blues Band to ever take part in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in January 2012.

People who have seen the show have said that Hoven’s portrayal of Clapton and his music is so close to the original, they have to remind themselves that they are in fact sitting in SA and not The Royal Albert Hall and that the musicians in front of them are indeed local grown talent and not the legends that have worked with Eric Clapton over the years!

Natalie Chapman adds the female touch to the show with her phenomenal vocals and charismatic story-telling. Actress/Singer-Songwriter/Radio DJ Chapman has had great success with her original music as well as lead performances in The Full Monty, The Rivonia Trial, Soapie Scandal and many more. Her theatre background along with 10 years as a full time musician has equipped her as a consummate performer.

Backed up by some of SA’s Top Session Musicians, this show is truly a world class production!

With performances at Emperor’s Palace, Villa Pascal, The Performer Theatre, Potters Place and many more the show will now be gracing the stage at the Brand New, World Class Atterbury Theatre for one night only! An up close and personal experience for Clapton fans they will never forget!

The Show covers songs from Clapton’s “Cream” Days all the way through to his solo career including his blues releases. Songs being performed include: “Layla”, “Cocaine”, “Wonderful Tonight”, “Before you Accuse me”, “I Shot the Sherriff”, “White Room”, “Riding with the King”, “Tears in Heaven” and so much more.
